NM woman faces eviction over medical marijuana use - huffingtonpost.com

SILVER CITY, N.M. — A woman was told to move out of her apartment when the landlord discovered she has marijuana for medical use.

Bobbie Wooten, 47, uses a wheelchair because she was paralyzed from the waist down in a car crash several years ago and suffers severe spasms. She joined the state's medical marijuana program when it went into effect last year.

A management representative for Silver Cliffs apartments did a surprise inspection Tuesday and spotted two marijuana plants she has for medical use under a state license, Wooten said. She said the representative returned a short time later with a notice that she had three days to move.

A spokesman for the Arizona realty company that manages the Silver City complex told the Las Cruces Sun-News that the eviction is within the terms of the lease.

"My lease provides for a drug-free environment," said David Kotin of Kay-Kay Realty. "Obviously, she is in violation of my lease."

Wooten, who has lived in the complex for 6 1/2 years, said Thursday that managers have since asked for a copy of her state license for the marijuana. She said she hasn't looked for another place yet.

"There aren't that many places that are wheelchair accessible," said Wooten.

State Health Department spokeswoman Deborah Busemeyer said patients in the medican marijuana program can possess up to four mature plants, 12 seedlings and up to six ounces _ enough marijuana for a three-month supply.

"We have never had a case like this where someone was told to move out," Busemeyer said.

The state law that took effect in July 2007 allows patients to be licensed to take marijuana for pain or other symptoms of specified debilitating illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and spasms associated with spinal cord injury.

Man tried to buy McDonald's meal with pot, cops say

Updated 4:28 p.m. PT, Mon., Oct. 13, 2008.
A McDonald's cashier called 911 after a Vero Beach drive-thru customer allegedly offered to pay for his meal with marijuana.

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office said the cashier called Monday with a description of the vehicle the suspect had been riding in.

A deputy spotted the vehicle, found marijuana in the car and arrested its occupant, 27-year-old Shawn Alexander Pannullo. Pannullo was charged with possession of cannabis and posted $500 bail. It was unclear if he had an attorney. A sheriff's report did not say what the suspect ordered at McDonald's or if he ultimately purchased the meal using something other than marijuana.

Puff, Puff, Puff, Give... 'Harold and Kumar 3' Goes Green

I am yet to see a single Harold and Kumar film, but I was sent the Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay Blu-ray so that is sure to end soon, but I am not sure if I want to watch it before seeing the much higher praised Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle. And now that Variety reports they are making a third film I really better get my ass in gear.

Word is Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who penned the first two films, will return to write and direct a third installment for Mandate Pictures.

The storyline is being kept quiet, but even though I haven't seen the films it isn't hard to guess what the gist of the story is going to be as, stars John Cho and Kal Penn are expected to reprise their roles as the ganja-loving duo as both have options in their contracts for the third installment.

With New Line Cinema slowly fading into the background despite a few upcoming projects here and there, Warner Bros. may be the one to distribute the flick if you care to know such details. If you are a fan of the series you can look for Guantanamo Bay on DVD (and Blu-Ray).

N.Y. poised to OK marijuana for medicinal use

Last year the Assembly passed a bill that would legalize medical marijuana; a new version of the bill has moved out of the codes committee, and another version is pending in the Senate. Those who support the bill are optimistic that this is the year New York legalizes medical marijuana.

The Assembly bill, sponsored by Rep. Richard Gottfried, D-Manhattan, would allow patients to use marijuana only if they have life-threatening or debilitating conditions, and only if their doctors believe it would be the most effective treatment. Patients and caregivers would register with the state and receive identification cards that would allow them to legally purchase marijuana for medicinal use. They would be allowed to grow up to 12 plants and to possess up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana, though a state-regulated distribution system would eventually replace home cultivation. This transition would hinge on the federal government’s approval of the state-regulated distribution system.

Rapper Warren G arrested on marijuana charge

Police say he was in a car that ran a red light in Hollywood. Both he and the driver were charged with having enough pot to assume they intended to sell it. Rapper Warren G, whose hits include "Regulate" and a hip-hop remake of "I Shot the Sheriff," was arrested in Hollywood on Sunday on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to sell, police said. Warren G, whose real name is Warren Griffin III, was riding in a car driven by Ryan Butler, 29, when they were pulled over about 1:40 a.m. on suspicion of running a red light near Hollywood Boulevard and Wilcox Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Officer Sara Faden. Man sentenced 6 Years for growing pot

LAMBERTVILLE - A Lambertville man has been sentenced to six years in state prison after police discovered he was growing 18 marijuana plants, police said.

Police said George Axel Wieschenberg, 46, pleaded guilty on Jan. 25 to maintaining or operating a marijuana production facility and admitted he'd grown marijuana plants in a wooded section of a farm in Delaware Township. Police said Wieschenberg had formerly rented a house at the Rosemont Ringoes Road farmhouse.

Police said the investigation began after a state police helicopter pilot noticed very large marijuana plants in a secluded section of the farm. State police eventually proved that Wieschenberg was watering the plants and removing leaves. - Story From nj.com

Teens accused of using corpse head for marijuana bong

Three teenagers have been accused of digging up a corpse and using the skull to smoke marijuana.
One of the men allegedly told police they dug up a grave, removed a head from a body and smoked marijuana using the skull as a bong.

Police in Houston believe the teens disturbed the grave of an 11-year-old boy who died in 1921.
