NM woman faces eviction over medical marijuana use - huffingtonpost.com

SILVER CITY, N.M. — A woman was told to move out of her apartment when the landlord discovered she has marijuana for medical use.

Bobbie Wooten, 47, uses a wheelchair because she was paralyzed from the waist down in a car crash several years ago and suffers severe spasms. She joined the state's medical marijuana program when it went into effect last year.

A management representative for Silver Cliffs apartments did a surprise inspection Tuesday and spotted two marijuana plants she has for medical use under a state license, Wooten said. She said the representative returned a short time later with a notice that she had three days to move.

A spokesman for the Arizona realty company that manages the Silver City complex told the Las Cruces Sun-News that the eviction is within the terms of the lease.

"My lease provides for a drug-free environment," said David Kotin of Kay-Kay Realty. "Obviously, she is in violation of my lease."

Wooten, who has lived in the complex for 6 1/2 years, said Thursday that managers have since asked for a copy of her state license for the marijuana. She said she hasn't looked for another place yet.

"There aren't that many places that are wheelchair accessible," said Wooten.

State Health Department spokeswoman Deborah Busemeyer said patients in the medican marijuana program can possess up to four mature plants, 12 seedlings and up to six ounces _ enough marijuana for a three-month supply.

"We have never had a case like this where someone was told to move out," Busemeyer said.

The state law that took effect in July 2007 allows patients to be licensed to take marijuana for pain or other symptoms of specified debilitating illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and spasms associated with spinal cord injury.

Man tried to buy McDonald's meal with pot, cops say

Updated 4:28 p.m. PT, Mon., Oct. 13, 2008.
A McDonald's cashier called 911 after a Vero Beach drive-thru customer allegedly offered to pay for his meal with marijuana.

The Indian River County Sheriff's Office said the cashier called Monday with a description of the vehicle the suspect had been riding in.

A deputy spotted the vehicle, found marijuana in the car and arrested its occupant, 27-year-old Shawn Alexander Pannullo. Pannullo was charged with possession of cannabis and posted $500 bail. It was unclear if he had an attorney. A sheriff's report did not say what the suspect ordered at McDonald's or if he ultimately purchased the meal using something other than marijuana.

Date set for Aerosmith trial over canceled Hawaiian show

Story By Alfred Branch Jr. On ticketnews.com/.

rockers Aerosmith, which recently announced plans for a 2009 tour, may want to consider adding a stop in Hawaii in May to their trek.

That's when the class action lawsuit filed against the band by a group of fans in Hawaii is scheduled to go to trial, according to one of the attorneys involved in the case.

Hawaii Circuit Court Judge Joseph Cardoza is scheduled to hear opening arguments on the case on May 11, 2009, and currently the plaintiffs are awaiting discovery phase materials from the defendants.

"The defendants have already had the opportunity to take the depositions of all of the named class representatives," Attorney Brandee Faria, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the fans, told TicketNews. "After we have received all the discovery (primarily documents) we have asked for from defendants, we will begin taking the depositions of the band and others who were involved in the concert and the subsequent cancellation."

Aerosmith became embroiled in the case after they canceled a concert scheduled for September 26, 2007, in Maui, allegedly to play a more lucrative show in Chicago that same month. The group claimed that following the Chicago show it could not fly its equipment to Maui in time for the September 26 show, but a few days later the band played a private show, also in Hawaii, for employees of Toyota. Aerosmith was reportedly paid about $1 million for the Toyota show, but the band never rescheduled the canceled Maui concert. (.cont) - Finish this story HERE.

Woman indicted in MySpace suicide case (Video)

A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted a Missouri woman for her alleged role in perpetrating a MySpace online hoax on a 13-year-old neighbor girl who committed suicide. Lori Drew of suburban St. Louis was charged with one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization to obtain information to inflict emotional distress on the girl.

She's accused of helping create a MySpace account to contact Megan Meier.
The younger girl thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy. He turned out not to exist. FOR VIDEO AND REST OF STORY READ MORE:
Megan hanged herself at home in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages, including one saying the world would be better off without her. The 33-year-old Drew has denied creating the account or sending messages to Megan. But last month an employee of Drew told "Good Morning America" that Drew did write some of the messages.

Users on MySpace must be at least 14, though Megan was not when she opened her account. A MySpace spokeswoman did not return calls seeking comment.
Someone using Josh's account was sending cruel messages. Then, Megan called her mother, saying electronic bulletins were being posted about her, saying things like, "Megan Meier is a slut. Megan Meier is fat."

Megan's parents are now separated and plan to divorce.
Megan sometimes suffered from low self-esteem and was on medication at the time of her death. "That is what makes it even more disgusting, that she knew the circumstances around our daughter and still played on it," said Megan's father, Ron Meier. - Story From OS9USER Blog
